But it’s not new.

It’s the same gun ban agenda that’s been failing in Congress for years — now repackaged to sound more acceptable.

Same Agenda, New Strategy

Federal “assault weapons” bans didn’t disappear when they stalled in Washington. They evolved.

Proposals like the GOSAFE Act already showed where this was headed by targeting most semi-automatic firearms owned by law-abiding Americans.

Now lawmakers are trying a different approach.

Instead of pushing a national ban outright, they’re pointing to Virginia and calling it a “model.”

The goal isn’t to change the policy, it’s to make it easier to pass.

And if it succeeds, it won’t matter what states like Texas have already done.

A federal gun ban replaces it.

Texas Gun Rights Is Fighting Back

Texas Gun Rights isn’t waiting for Washington to act.

The organization is already working to pass the Second Amendment Preservation Act next session, giving Texas real tools to push back when federal overreach comes knocking.

If Washington tries to impose gun control laws that go beyond Texas law, there should be consequences.

That means civil penalties for any law enforcement officer — federal or local — who attempts to enforce those laws inside Texas.

Not symbolic resistance.

Not statements.

Enforcement.

Because if Texas doesn’t draw that line, Washington will.

And Washington isn’t slowing down.

They’re changing tactics.

Rebranding the same bans. Re-pitching the same failed ideas. Waiting for the moment they can push it through.

This is that moment.

Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ), husband of notorious gun control activist Gabby Giffords, is back at it.

This time, he’s reintroducing the GOSAFE Act—a deceptively titled piece of legislation that functions as a de facto ban on most semi-automatic rifles, shotguns, and even pistols under the familiar guise of an “assault weapons ban.”

While Kelly and his co-sponsors pitch the Gas-Operated Semi-Automatic Firearms Exclusion Act as a “commonsense” measure to curb violence, a closer look reveals its true purpose: outlawing the vast majority of modern firearms owned by everyday Americans.

Under the GOSAFE Act:

Any firearm using a gas-operated semi-automatic action could be banned, depending on arbitrary definitions set by unelected bureaucrats.

A prohibited firearms list would be established, targeting not just scary-looking rifles but semi-automatic shotguns and pistols based purely on their internal mechanics—not their misuse.

Accessories like bump stocks and Glock switches—already heavily regulated—would face further restrictions.

Existing owners of banned firearms would be allowed to keep them but couldn’t transfer or sell them except to immediate family members, gutting the used firearms market.

This is not just an assault weapons ban—it’s a full-frontal attack on the Second Amendment, targeting millions of the most common and reliable firearms used for self-defense, hunting, and sport shooting.

A Thin Republican Majority Leaves the Door Open

While Republicans control both chambers of Congress, their majority margins are razor-thin.

Gun control extremists like Kelly know this and are counting on the next tragedy—real or manufactured—to exploit emotional headlines and push this radical ban through.

Even if they fall short this time, the real game is about momentum.

The 2026 midterm elections are on the horizon, and history is clear: the party holding the White House almost always loses ground.

That’s why Democrats and gun control groups are laying the groundwork now, hoping to seize the narrative when the political winds shift.

TXGR and NAGR: Leading the Counteroffensive

But Texas Gun Rights (TXGR) and the National Association for Gun Rights (NAGR) aren’t sitting back waiting for the next battle—they’re taking the fight to Congress right now.

With Republicans still holding a trifecta in Washington, TXGR and NAGR are going on the offensive, demanding action on a pro-gun agenda that reflects the will of the people who elected this majority.

“Gun owners have been losing ground for decades because establishment Republicans have compromised at every turn,” said TXGR President Chris McNutt. “That stops now. We’re not playing defense. We’re demanding a rollback of the unconstitutional infringements that never should have been passed.”

That means:

Abolishing the ATF with H.R. 221, ending the agency that raids gun owners’ homes and enforces tyrannical gun laws.

Repealing the National Firearms Act (NFA) with H.R. 335, eliminating outdated restrictions on suppressors, short-barreled rifles, and machine guns.

Passing National Constitutional Carry, ensuring that every American’s right to carry a firearm doesn’t stop at state lines.

Gun Owners Must Never Give an Inch

The message from TXGR and NAGR is clear: Never give an inch. Never compromise. That’s the only reason why these “no-compromise” groups have been able to reclaim lost freedoms while others caved.

“The gun grabbers have been playing offense for decades. It’s time they get a taste of their own medicine,” McNutt said. “We need to abolish the ATF, repeal the NFA, and pass constitutional carry nationwide—before it’s too late.”

Senator Kelly’s GOSAFE Act is just the latest reminder that the anti-gun machine never sleeps. Neither can gun owners. With midterms looming and the balance of power uncertain, the time to act is now.

Help Texas Gun Rights continue defeating the anti-gun agenda by going waging an aggressive offense before it’s too late:
