The alleged assassin of conservative icon Charlie Kirk didn’t use an AR-15.
He didn’t use a so-called “assault weapon.”
Reports indicate the rifle was a .30-06 Mauser bolt-action hunting rifle — a classic deer rifle, not a semi-automatic firearm.
But facts don’t matter to the Left.
Within hours of Kirk’s blood being spilled, Democrats in Washington were demanding bans on AR-15s and semi-automatic firearms. Because for them, gun control has never been about facts or safety. It has always been about confiscation, plain and simple.
The Left’s Rush to Exploit Tragedy
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) claimed Kirk’s assassination “proved the need for bold federal action to get weapons of war off our streets.”
Rep. Seth Moulton (D-MA) declared, “Enough is enough — we need to finally ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines.”
Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) added, “How many more lives must be lost before Congress does its job and passes commonsense gun reform?”
Their rallying cry is the Federal “Assault Weapons Ban of 2025” (S.1531/H.R.3115), which already has the backing of 42 Senators and 150 Representatives.
The bill would outlaw America’s most popular rifle, the AR-15, and many semi-automatic handguns and shotguns owned by law-abiding citizens.
Distorting Charlie’s Words
Adding insult to injury, these same politicians are also twisting Charlie Kirk’s own words to smear his defense of the Second Amendment.
Clips circulating online suggest Kirk thought some gun deaths were “worth it.”
In reality, Kirk was making a point about the cost of liberty: just as tens of thousands die every year in car accidents without anyone calling for a ban on automobiles, a free society must accept that no right comes without risk.
Here is his full quote, with full context:
“Having an armed citizenry comes with a price, and that is part of liberty. Driving comes with a price. Fifty thousand, 50,000, 50,000 people die on the road every year. That’s a price. You get rid of driving, you have 50,000 less auto fatalities. But we have decided that the benefit of driving, speed, accessibility, mobility, having products, services, is worth the cost of 50,000 people dying on the road. So we need to be very clear, that you are not going to get gun deaths to zero. It will not happen. You can significantly reduce them, by having more fathers in the home, by having more armed guards in front of schools. We should have an honest and clear reductionist view of gun violence, but we should not have a utopian one. You will never live in a society, when you have an armed citizenry and you won’t have a single gun death. That is nonsense. It’s drivel. But I think it’s worth it.” – Charlie Kirk
That was Charlie’s conviction — that you cannot eliminate all violence without eliminating the freedom the Second Amendment guarantees.
Gun Control Means Confiscation
The truth about Charlie Kirk’s murder — and the weapon allegedly used — exposes the emptiness of the Left’s arguments.
They don’t care about the facts. Their goal has never changed: to ban, confiscate, and ultimately abolish private firearm ownership in America.
And they won’t stop until the Second Amendment is erased.
Texas Gun Rights Responds
Texas Gun Rights President Chris McNutt blasted Democrats’ exploitation of the tragedy:
“Exploiting Charlie’s death to shred the Constitution is disgraceful,” McNutt said. “The Left’s ultimate goal has never been about safety — it’s about control. They won’t stop until every rifle, every pistol, and every shotgun is banned and confiscated. But Texas Gun Rights fights without compromise because we know the Second Amendment protects the rest. If we lose this one, we lose them all.”
Charlie Kirk believed the Second Amendment was the cornerstone of liberty. His tragic assassination does not vindicate the gun control lobby — it proves that evil exists, and that freedom requires courage to defend.
While anti-gun Democrats push their so-called “assault weapons” ban, gun owners across the nation — led by groups like Texas Gun Rights — are standing firm: the Second Amendment will not be surrendered.
