2019 Texas Legislative Preview – What Gun Owners Need To Know
December 27, 2019
“No Man’s life, liberty, or property are safe while the Legislature is in session” – Gideon John Tucker
With the 2019 Legislative Session in full-swing from January through May, those words are resonating louder than ever.
After George Soros injected $2.8m into Texas elections in 2018, your right to keep and bear arms is a top target in Austin for 2019!
That’s why your dedication to the protection of your gun rights has never been more important.
Click here to sign your Second Amendment Mandate RIGHT AWAY.
Your signed mandate will send a loud-and-clear message to the Austin political establishment to stand strong on our gun rights or face the political consequences.
Anti-gun politicians showed us their true colors in 2018 as they ran on gun control platforms to garner support from the fringe Left.
And the gun controllers who successfully rode the coat tails of failed U.S. Senate candidate Beto O’Rourke into legislative office are hastily filing anti-gun bills for the 2019 Legislative Session.
Their hope is that by distracting gun owners with gun control, we will stop trying to advance pro-gun legislation like Constitutional Carry.
That’s why Democrat Joe Moody filed HB 131 –- which implements dangerous “Red Flag” gun confiscation orders.
If this law were to pass, government bureaucrats would be authorized to confiscate your firearms — without due process — over a mere accusation.
After your guns are taken away, you would be FORCED into a court room to defend yourself…and beg to get your firearms back.
If you recall, Governor Abbott made a short-lived push for this dangerous proposal just last summer.
TXGR members swung into action by jamming the phone-lines and inboxes of politicians at the Capitol — urging them to oppose the Governor’s “Red Flag” proposal.
And after flooding a summer Senate “gun control” panel with over 10,000 of your “No Gun Control, No Deals” petitions, Abbott hastily backed off his calls for stripping Texans of their gun rights.
Now, with a new legislative session upon us, anti-gun Democrats resurrected Abbott’s bad policy.
And Moody’s bill already has a companion bill in the Senate: SB 157, authored by Senator Jose Rodriguez.
These “Red Flag” gun confiscation orders are just one of many anti-gun bills we expect to be filed for the 2019 session.
These bills must be defeated.
Gun owners must be ready to bring the fight to the heart of the gun grabbers by advancing pro-gun legislation.
That’s why I’m excited to announce that pro-gun champion Rep. Jonathan Stickland filed HB 357, the 2019 Constitutional Carry bill!
This landmark legislation would allow law-abiding citizens to carry their firearm — WITHOUT jumping through a bunch of bureaucratic hoops!
In essence, it’s the Second Amendment, which states “the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.”
Fighting to advance Constitutional Carry in this political climate is EXACTLY what we need to keep the gun controllers at bay!
But I’ll be very blunt with you: this fight will not be easy.
Many of the gun control lobby-endorsed politicians promised to thwart attempts to pass Constitutional Carry — and even pledged to repeal lukewarm gun reforms made in recent years, such as licensed open carry and campus carry.
But anti-gun Democrats are not the only problem.
Even though Constitutional Carry remains the #1 priority of the Republican Party of Texas, it was Republicans who killed the bill the past two sessions.
In 2017, Republican State Representative Phil King KILLED Constitutional Carry by refusing to allow it to come up for a vote in his Homeland Security & Public Safety Committee.
In 2015, it was anti-gun Republican Speaker of the House Joe Straus and his lackeys that ensured the death of Constitutional Carry.
Even though Straus will not be returning to Austin as Speaker, his hand-picked successor Dennis Bonnen appears poised to grab the reins of power in his stead.
But it’s not all doom and gloom.
Thanks to the efforts of gun owners in the 2018 elections, Texas Gun Rights forced more Republican politicians on record in support of Constitutional Carry than ever before.
In spite of the “blue wave”, Republicans who ran on pro-gun platforms outperformed weak-kneed Republicans and outright anti-gun Democrats over all.
With the immense pressure they’ll be under to abandon their pro-gun priorities, it is critical we band together and urge the Republican-dominated Legislature to honor their pledges!
Needless to say, your Texas Gun Rights will be knee-deep in offensive AND defensive battles in 2019.
That’s why I need to know that you have my back this Legislative Session.
