“This is nothing more than a direct attack on all semi-automatic pistols,” said Chris McNutt, President of Texas Gun Rights. “California politicians are trying to send law-abiding citizens back to the days of revolvers, all while criminals keep ignoring their endless gun laws.”
Assembly Democrats and national gun control advocates claim AB 1127 is a “safety measure” designed to prevent criminals from easily converting handguns into fully automatic firearms. They point to crimes involving black-market “Glock switches” and say banning the sale of certain pistols closes a loophole.
However, these conversion devices are already illegal under federal law, making AB 1127 redundant at best and intentionally deceptive at worst. The bill provides no avenue for manufacturers to redesign pistols to comply, making it clear that the intent isn’t regulation—it’s prohibition.
Texas Gun Rights argues that blaming Glocks—or any semi-automatic pistols—for the illegal actions of criminals is nothing but a Trojan horse for broader gun bans.
“This bill is a wolf in sheep’s clothing,” McNutt warned. “California politicians are exploiting fear to chip away at the Second Amendment, one handgun at a time.”
Newsom’s Radical Dilemma
Now the bill sits on Governor Gavin Newsom’s desk, putting him in a precarious political position.
Newsom has a long record of supporting radical gun control—universal background checks, “assault weapons” bans, magazine restrictions, you name it. Signing AB 1127 would please the far-left flank of his party, which is increasingly unashamed about pushing for gun confiscation.
But the move could backfire nationally.
Even Vice President Kamala Harris has admitted to owning a Glock, underscoring how extreme Newsom’s position would be compared to everyday Democrats. Allowing this ban to become law could severely damage Newsom’s presidential ambitions, cementing him as the face of radical gun prohibition just as he tries to appeal to a broader electorate.
Adding to the irony, Newsom recently appeared on The Shawn Ryan Show, where he was gifted a firearm off camera. But because California’s laws are so convoluted, the governor sheepishly turned it down—afraid of breaking one of his own state’s labyrinthine rules.
California’s Blueprint for the Left
California’s gun control laws have long been a blueprint for other Democrat-run states, each eager to copy the Golden State’s restrictions. And ultimately, these policies are the very ones Democrats will try to import to Texas in their never-ending effort to “flip Texas blue.”
But Texas Gun Rights says that fight will never succeed.
“Make no mistake, whatever California does on gun control, they’ll try to export to the rest of the country,” said McNutt. “But we’re drawing a line in the sand—Texas Gun Rights will never let California’s radical anti-gun agenda take root in the Lone Star State.”
California’s AB 1127 is not about safety, nor about closing loopholes. It is about targeting the most popular handguns in America and pushing California one step closer to the dream of the far-left: civilian disarmament.
Will you help Texas Gun Rights continue shining a light on the policies of the radical, anti-gun Left?
