CD 32 Spotlight: Will Pro-Gun Ally Katrina Pierson Run?

The redrawing of Texas’ Congressional District 32 has turned a once-safe Democrat seat into prime pickup territory for conservatives — and now the big question is whether Rep. Katrina Pierson will step into the race.

The newly drawn CD 32 shifts from 62% Democratic to 60% Republican on the Texas Partisan Index, giving pro-gun Texans a golden opportunity to replace anti-gun Democrat Julie Johnson, who is already eyeing another seat.

Seven Republicans have declared, but the buzz is all about Pierson.

“Katrina Pierson has already proven herself a fighter for gun owners in the Texas Legislature, and if she jumps in, this race becomes a whole new ballgame,” said Chris McNutt, President of Texas Gun Rights.

Pierson’s Pro-Gun Record

Serving on the House Homeland Security & Public Safety Committee, Pierson has been at the center of nearly every major firearms fight in Texas.

She unseated one of the most anti-gun Republicans in Austin, Justin Holland, who in 2023 pushed to ban certain firearm sales to 18–20-year-olds and even walked out on the vote to ban red flag laws.

Pierson reversed course for Texans, voting this year to ban red flag laws outright — a measure signed into law by Governor Abbott.

“Katrina has shown she won’t play games with our rights. She stood strong against red flag laws and proved she’ll fight the Bloomberg and Biden gun control machine head-on,” McNutt said.

The Field Without Pierson

As of now, seven Republicans are officially in the race:

Ryan Binkley — Pastor, businessman, and 2024 presidential candidate who has rejected “assault weapons” bans as ineffective and pledged to stand against liberal attacks on the Second Amendment.

Darrell Day — 2024 GOP nominee for CD-32, running again on a platform of protecting constitutional rights, including a commitment to defend the Second Amendment.

Eric Niehaus — Navy veteran and entrepreneur promising to “flip CD-32 red” and defend core freedoms, with strong conservative alignment suggesting pro-gun positions.

James Ussery — East Texas native and longtime oil and gas professional who explicitly campaigns on protecting Social Security, the First Amendment, and the Second Amendment.

Aimee Carrasco — Marine Corps veteran, licensed mental health counselor, and community leader running on compassionate service, border security, and real-world Republican problem solving.

Monty Montanez — Veteran entrepreneur, former U.S. Air Force Security Forces member, running for Congress with a focus on jobs, education, and veteran affairs in Texas’ 32nd.

Zain Shaito — Former U.S. Army intelligence officer and Olympic athlete who promises to “fight for Texas families and defend our freedoms,”

While each brings conservative credentials, none carry Pierson’s proven track record of leading the fight on the Second Amendment in Austin.

Bigger Picture: Five Democrat Seats in Play

CD 32 is only one of five Democrat-held districts in Texas where pro-gun Texans have a real opportunity to flip long-standing anti-gun representation.

But the fight doesn’t stop with Democrats.

Some Republicans in Washington have also betrayed gun owners — names like Tony Gonzales and Dan Crenshaw, who have sided with gun control measures. Pro-gun challengers are rising to call them out, making it clear that compromise on the Second Amendment is no longer acceptable.

Texas Gun Rights PAC, the affiliated political action committee, has already announced endorsements in some of these key races — including support for candidates challenging incumbents who backed gun control.

“This is about more than one seat. This is about reshaping Texas’ delegation in Washington to actually fight for the Second Amendment, not sell us out,” McNutt explained.

The Stakes

Bloomberg and Soros are doubling down with millions in Texas, hoping to chip away at Republican majorities in their long-term project to turn the state blue.

That makes the fight for CD 32 — and the possibility of a proven ally like Katrina Pierson entering the race — all the more critical.

“If Katrina Pierson runs, gun owners will have a fighter they can trust. And if Texans rally behind her — and candidates like Herrera and Toth — we can put Congress on notice: betray gun owners at your own peril,” McNutt said.

Will you help Texas Gun Rights identify pro-gun candidates and EXPOSE anti-gun candidates, and ensure protecting gun rights will become a top priority in Washington and in Austin?
