Don Huffines, Champion of Constitutional Carry, Announces Bid for Texas Comptroller

DALLAS, TX — Don Huffines, the former Texas State Senator renowned for his unwavering defense of the Second Amendment, has officially launched his campaign for Texas Comptroller. Gun owners and fiscal conservatives alike are taking note.

Huffines, a staunch advocate for Constitutional Carry during his tenure in the Texas Senate, is bringing the same fervor to his bid for the state’s chief financial officer role. In his campaign announcement, Huffines declared,

“I’m committing $10 million to this race on Day 1 because Texas taxpayers deserve a Comptroller who fights for them—and I’m in it to win.”

His campaign centers on the “DOGE TEXAS” initiative—an acronym for “Defending Our Great Economy.”

Huffines explained, “As comptroller, I will DOGE Texas by exposing waste, fraud, and abuse in government to increase efficiency and put every penny we save into property tax relief.”

During his time in the Senate, Huffines led a significant government corruption investigation, resulting in the dismantling of a fraudulent agency and the imprisonment of six officials.

He emphasized, “The state of Texas spends more than $450 million a day, seven days a week. Right now, wasteful spending runs unchecked—Texans deserve a watchdog, not a rubber stamp.”

Chris McNutt, President of Texas Gun Rights, expressed strong support for Huffines, stating, “Don Huffines was the legislative leader for Constitutional Carry and stood with us in the trenches, and he’ll stand with us again as Comptroller. He won’t compromise. He won’t back down. And that’s exactly why I’m proud to endorse Don Huffines for Texas Comptroller. Texas gun owners can count on him to defend liberty and fiscal responsibility—and to never surrender to the radical Left.”

McNutt previously worked for Huffines in the Texas Senate before joining the gun rights movement.

In fact, it was Huffines authoring the 2015 Senate bill for Constitutional Carry that led to McNutt being introduced to Dudley Brown, the President of TXGR’s national affiliate, the National Association for Gun Rights.

But Huffines isn’t the only Republican eyeing the Comptroller’s office.

Texas Railroad Commissioner Christi Craddick has also thrown her hat in the ring, bringing with her significant establishment backing and years of experience in statewide office.

Craddick, daughter of former Speaker Tom Craddick, is expected to mount a formidable campaign, touting her regulatory leadership and fiscal credentials.

With a crowded primary field shaping up, voters will soon have to decide whether they want a grassroots conservative fighter in Huffines or a more traditional GOP figure like Craddick managing Texas’ finances.
