Governor signs Constitutional Carry!
March 1, 2019,
Governor signs Constitutional Carry!
That was the headline story sweeping Oklahoma media outlets yesterday.
With a stroke of his pen, Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt signed House Bill 2597 into law Wednesday evening, making Oklahoma the 14th Constitutional Carry state.
Yet again, the Sooner State beat Texas.
This, of course, comes just weeks after South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem signed Constitutional Carry into law.
And the Kentucky House of Representatives is on the verge of sending Constitutional Carry to the Governor’s desk for his signature.
Meanwhile, Constitutional Carry here in Texas hasn’t even had a hearing, let alone an actual vote.
That’s why I need you to sign your Constitutional Carry petition to your legislators RIGHT AWAY.
Politicians are desperately trying to maintain the status quo in Texas.
They seemingly believe that you should continue begging government bureaucrats for a permission slip to exercise your constitutionally-protected right.
For the past several years, Constitutional Carry was killed by Republican leadership, with anti-gun Speaker Joe Straus at the helm.
In 2015, it was then State Representative Dennis Bonnen who gaveled down Representative Jonathan Stickland’s attempt to force a recorded vote for a Constitutional Carry amendment on the House floor.
Now Bonnen has taken up the reins from Straus and leads the House as Speaker.
Capitol insiders say that Bonnen was only taking orders from Straus at the time — and that he doesn’t want to follow the anti-gun footsteps of his predecessor.
But in his desire to please everyone during his ascension to power, Speaker Dennis Bonnen seemingly made a deal with the devil.
One of Bonnen’s first actions as Speaker was naming Democrat Representative Joe Moody to serve as his Speaker Pro-tempore.
If you recall, Moody is responsible for authoring dangerous “red flag” gun confiscation legislation.
And Bonnen elevated him to the second most powerful position in the Texas House.
In his next action as Speaker, Bonnen appointed anti-gun Democrat Poncho Nevarez to chair the committee responsible for hearing Constitutional Carry legislation.
Inside sources indicate Nevarez specifically requested the Chairmanship for the SOLE purpose of killing Constitutional Carry…
…and Bonnen gave it to him anyway!
After facing a backlash from gun owners for these anti-gun appointments, Speaker Bonnen is now making private promises to hold a “quick” hearing for Constitutional Carry.
But ACTIONS speak louder than words.
As it stands, a hearing has NOT been scheduled for HB 357, the 2019 Constitutional Carry bill.
And the clock is ticking.
As we dive further into the legislative session, time is rapidly becoming a finite resource.
That’s why it’s absolutely vital for you and me to turn up the pressure on Speaker Bonnen and your legislators and to demand a quick hearing for Constitutional Carry legislation.
So after you sign your Constitutional Carry petition, please consider making your most generous contribution to TXGR.
Every dollar you’re able to give will help me identify and recruit more pro-gun Texans into the fight to restore our rights in Texas.
Thank you for all that you’re able to do.
