Hunt Files Repeal Bill as Cornyn Collapses and Democrats Push an Anti-Gun Extremist

Texas gun owners just got hit with a political triple shock.

Congressman Wesley Hunt has introduced the Second Amendment Restoration Act — a bill designed to fully repeal the gun-control provisions Senator John Cornyn rammed through Congress with Joe Biden as part of the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act.

According to Chris McNutt, President of Texas Gun Rights, Hunt’s legislation would “rip Cornyn’s betrayal out by the root and stem.” “Not only did Cornyn bankroll red flag laws, he ballooned the flawed NICS gun ban registry and handed the ATF a blank check to expand its war on gun owners.”

But TXGR wasn’t alone in backing Hunt’s bill: The Second Amendment Restoration Act is also endorsed by National Association for Gun Rights (NAGR), Gun Owners of America (GOA) and the National Rifle Association (NRA).

Hunt said “The Constitution is crystal clear: our right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. Every lawmaker who claims to stand for freedom should support this bill without hesitation. Protecting the right of Americans to defend themselves and their families is not just policy, it’s principle.”

And it seems pro-gun Texans are taking notice: two new polls show the Republican primary in a deadlock between Hunt, Attorney General Ken Paxton, and Cornyn.

But while the GOP dukes it out, Democrats are coalescing behind one of the most radical anti-gun candidates in Texas politics.

Cornyn Slide Confirmed

A new internal poll released by the Hunt campaign shows:

Cornyn: 25.5%
Paxton: 25%
Hunt: 24%
Undecided: 26%
It’s a knife fight — and Cornyn’s $45+ million war chest hasn’t bought him a single inch of momentum.

A prior University of Houston Texas Trends Survey also showed Cornyn stuck in a dog-fight at second place with 33%, Paxton at first with 34% and Hunt within striking distance at 22%.

The trend is unmistakable: the Republican base has turned on Cornyn.

Meanwhile, the Left is radically escalating

If gun owners needed a reminder of what’s at stake, they only need to look at New York City — where voters just elected socialist Zohran Mamdani as mayor, a man who openly advocated for a total national gun ban.

Mamdani isn’t an outlier. He’s the national template. And Texas Democrats may be following that model.

Talarico Surges on the Democratic Side

An internal poll for the James Talarico campaign shows the Austin-area progressive state representative leading the Democratic U.S. Senate primary 48%–42% — a stunning 36-point surge since August.

Among Democrats who know both candidates, he leads by 47 points.

Talarico is already branding himself as the Left’s next rising star, and his record is crystal clear:

  • He has supported multiple gun-confiscation bills.
  • He backs “red-flag” style stripping of due process.
  • He proudly champions the same ideological movement as Mamdani.

If he wins the nomination, Texas gun owners won’t just be facing a typical Democrat —
they’ll be facing one of the most aggressively anti-gun candidates in state history.

The GOP Side: Two Pro-Gun Fighters vs. One Career Sellout

Ken Paxton and Wesley Hunt have both returned their Texas Gun Rights Candidate Surveys 100% pro-gun.

TXGR PAC endorsed Paxton before Hunt entered the race, but both men have drawn a sharp line in the sand: No more gun control. Full repeal of Cornyn’s BSCA. Zero compromise.

Cornyn, on the other hand, has refused to return a TXGR survey in this and every prior election cycle.

Texas Gun Rights President Chris McNutt issued a blistering statement:

“For the first time in decades, gun owners have an actual pro-gun choice for U.S. Senate — actually, two of them. Meanwhile, the career sellout who wrote Joe Biden’s gun control bill won’t even fill out a survey. Cornyn’s contempt for Texas gun owners is obvious. His time is up.”

What It All Means

Texas is heading into a political collision:

  • A fractured GOP base with two strong pro-gun challengers
  • A deeply unpopular incumbent tied to the largest federal gun control in 30 years
  • A Democratic Party elevating a full-blown gun-control radical
  • A rising national movement of left-wing politicians openly normalizing confiscation

This Senate race isn’t just another election.

It’s the frontline of the national fight over the Second Amendment.

And for the first time in decades, gun owners — not the establishment — have the power to choose the direction of the state and the nation.

Will you help Texas Gun Rights EXPOSE anti-gun candidates in the upcoming midterm elections?
