Among the most egregious bills pre-filed are HB 234, HB 478, HB 655, and HB 893, which would enact red flag gun confiscation laws, stripping law-abiding citizens of their firearms without due process or the commission of a crime. HB 623 seeks to ban semi-automatic firearms under the guise of an “assault weapons” ban, targeting America’s most popular rifles and many other commonly owned firearms. Bills such as HB 306, HB 313, HB 384, HB 579, and HB 1150 aim to disarm military-aged adults, leaving young Texans and single parents defenseless.
Further proposals include universal background checks on private firearm transfers—effectively creating federal-style gun registration—through bills like HB 397, HB 682, HB 808, and HB 828. Bills such as HB 461, HB 874, and HB 883 mandate state-level gun registration by requiring firearm dealers to report multiple purchases to authorities. HB 226 targets home gunsmithing and privately made firearms, while HB 481 and HB 877 seek to ban standard-capacity magazines, criminalizing magazines holding more than a handful of rounds.
Other anti-gun measures, such as SB 354, which repeals campus carry, and HB 834, which ends open carry, further illustrate the coordinated attack on gun rights in Texas. These bills represent a direct threat to freedom and the Second Amendment, signaling that the anti-gun lobby has no intention of backing down.
In response, TXGR is preparing to fight back with a bold pro-gun agenda. Key legislative priorities include HB 162, which would ban red flag laws to protect Texans from unconstitutional gun confiscation, and a forthcoming Second Amendment Preservation Act to nullify federal gun control laws in the state. TXGR is also backing HB 920, which would eliminate sales tax on firearms, ammunition, and accessories, ensuring that exercising constitutional rights is not penalized financially. Bills like HB 925 and HB 1128 aim to reduce gun-free zones, empowering law-abiding Texans to protect themselves and others.
TXGR President Chris McNutt emphasized the importance of grassroots activism in defeating these anti-gun proposals. The organization is mobilizing gun owners across Texas to contact legislators, participate in lobby days, and support aggressive ad campaigns to hold anti-gun politicians accountable.
“This fight is about defending freedom and ensuring that Texas remains a stronghold for Second Amendment rights,” McNutt said. “We’ve faced these challenges before and emerged victorious. With your help, we can do it again.”
Texans are encouraged to act now by contacting their elected officials and urging them to stand against these draconian bills while supporting bold pro-gun reforms. Together, the people of Texas can protect their rights and ensure that the Lone Star State remains a beacon of liberty for generations to come.
