The Catholic bishops of Minnesota didn’t stay silent.
For over a year, they warned Governor Tim Walz and the Democrat-controlled state legislature about the glaring vulnerability of nonpublic schools—particularly Catholic schools—begging the state to extend basic security funding and protections to all students, not just those in government-run schools.
But those calls fell on deaf ears.
Now, in the aftermath of the tragic Catholic school shooting in Minneapolis, we are forced to confront a brutal reality: the warning signs were there—and they were ignored.
In a letter dated February 21, 2023, the Minnesota Catholic Conference (MCC) explicitly asked Governor Walz to provide “ongoing, per-pupil funding for school safety for all students, regardless of what type of school they attend.”
They didn’t ask for special treatment. They simply demanded equal protection for students in Catholic schools—many of whom come from underserved or immigrant communities. Their plea: protect children before it’s too late.
It wasn’t enough. Now we know why the bishops were so concerned.
Democrats Say “Ban Guns, Celebrate Mental Illness”
As grieving families demand answers, the response from Democrat politicians has followed a familiar script.
Rather than confront the systemic failures that led to the shooting—mental health neglect, security disparities, and ideologically driven inaction—they’re using the tragedy as a prop to push for more gun control.
Within hours of the shooting, gun-grabbers in Congress started talking about the Assault Weapons Ban of 2025 (H.R. 3115), with over 130 Democrat cosponsors already signed on.
The legislation doesn’t just target AR-15s—it criminalizes a wide swath of commonly owned pistols, shotguns, and magazines used by law-abiding gun owners across the country.
But here’s the real kicker: while Democrats preach gun bans from their marble towers, they’ve also championed policies that openly destigmatize serious mental illness, treat gender dysphoria as untouchable dogma, and hand down “restorative justice” to violent offenders.
And now they have the gall to blame your AR-15 for the crimes their ideology allowed to happen?
As one Catholic leader said: “We didn’t just get ignored—we got sacrificed on the altar of woke politics.”
Equal Protection or Political Calculus?
In Minnesota, security grants were made available to public schools.
But when Catholic and private schools asked for equal access, they were rebuffed—time and again.
Why? Because to the progressive elites running Minnesota, Catholic kids don’t count.
That same double standard infects the gun control debate nationwide.
When innocent lives are lost, Democrats rush to ban your guns. But they won’t even fund a deadbolt or assign a resource officer to a school unless it checks all their ideological boxes.
Your gun is the scapegoat. Their policies are the real danger.
This tragedy underscores why Texas Gun Rights and pro-2A Americans cannot afford to let their guard down.
As Texas Gun Rights President Chris McNutt has said:
“Democrats never let a tragedy go to waste—especially when it can be weaponized to disarm law-abiding citizens. But gun control isn’t the answer. Accountability, equal protection, and a return to sanity are.”
As Congress pushes H.R. 3115 forward, gun owners must double down. The fight isn’t just about defending rifles—it’s about defending truth, liberty, and the God-given right to self-defense in a world where elites would rather virtue signal than protect children.
The bishops asked for help. Democrats chose politics.
And now, once again, it’s the innocent who paid the price.
