Never Despair: An Independence Day Message from TXGR

Fellow Patriots,

As we prepare to celebrate our nation’s Independence Day, I want to offer two thoughts to encourage you — to help you celebrate not just where we’ve been, but to steel yourself for the battles still ahead to protect what is ours.

The first thought is from one of my political mentors, Mike Rothfeld. The second, from someone even wiser.

First, “as you review our nation’s political, moral and social flaws, I suggest you consider this: Where else would you rather live today?  What other nation or place offers a better hope for a family, for liberty, for prosperity, for peace, and for men and women such as us to stand up boldly for what is True, Good and Beautiful?  If, like me, you conclude there is no such land, then there is reason for celebrating, even in frustration and doubt … and especially hope.”

But we must be clear: it is the Second Amendment — not lofty speeches or feel-good slogans — that guards every one of our God-given rights.

Our freedom of speech, our ability to worship freely, our right to raise our families as we see fit — they all depend on our ability to defend ourselves from tyranny, foreign or domestic.

Which brings me to the second thought — from Samuel Adams, the father of American resistance:

“Nil desperandum — Never Despair. That is a motto for you and me. All are not dead; and where there is a spark of patriotic fire, we will rekindle it.”

And I see that spark every day — in the Texas Gun Rights members who show up, speak out, and never back down.

So this Independence Day, as fireworks light up the Texas sky, take pride in your country. Be thankful for the liberties we still hold. And recommit yourself to the hard work of preserving them — especially the Second Amendment.

Because without it, we lose everything else.

For Texas and Liberty,

Chris McNutt
President, Texas Gun Rights

P.S. The fight to defend our rights — especially the Second Amendment — doesn’t stop just because it’s a holiday. If you believe, like I do, that liberty is worth defending, then please chip in whatever you can today to help Texas Gun Rights mobilize more gun owners and hold the line. Every dollar makes a difference.
