Teachers Unions Are Bankrolling America’s Gun Confiscation Agenda

For years, parents assumed teachers unions existed to represent educators in contract disputes and fight for better classroom conditions.

But recent funding disclosures paint a far different picture: the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) and the National Education Association (NEA) have quietly become two of the largest financiers of the gun control movement in America.

Between 2015 and today, these two unions have funneled nearly $50 million into a web of political action committees, advocacy nonprofits, and progressive operations designed not to improve education, but to dismantle the Second Amendment.

And right now, nobody embodies this agenda more clearly than Randi Weingarten, the embattled President of the AFT.

Millions Flow to Gun Control

Funding records show teachers union dollars have landed in the coffers of the most notorious anti-gun organizations in the country:

March for Our Lives Action Fund – $340,000

Grassroots gun control group founded after the Parkland shooting, pushing bans on AR-15s and “assault weapons,” magazine restrictions, and expanded background checks.

Everytown / Bloomberg-Aligned Infrastructure (via partner networks)

While not always funded under the Everytown name, millions flow into partner orgs like:

  • Center for American Progress + Action Fund – $1,950,000 combined
  • America Votes – $5,977,256 (works closely with Everytown on coordinated gun control campaigns)
  • Ballot Initiative Strategy Center – $1,985,000 (supports state-level gun control ballot measures)

House Majority PAC – $9,185,000

Funds candidates who routinely campaign on passing gun bans and “universal” background checks.

Senate Majority PAC – $10,150,000

Same as above, focused on U.S. Senate races — heavily promotes candidates backing Biden’s gun control agenda.

Democracy Alliance – $3,062,367

Major donor collective that bankrolls multiple gun control campaigns.

ProgressNow / State Chapters – $925,000 combined

State-based progressive messaging hub that amplifies gun control talking points in local media.

Planned Parenthood Votes – $350,000

While best known for abortion advocacy, they also consistently lobby for gun restrictions.

Media Matters for America – $300,000

Key outlet promoting anti-gun messaging in mainstream press narratives.

These groups all share one mission: pushing bans on AR-15s, implementing so-called “universal background checks,” and lobbying for red flag gun confiscation laws.

Instead of working to raise teacher pay or improve literacy scores, teachers unions are pouring dues money into the political infrastructure of the gun control lobby.

In short, your child’s math teacher’s union dues are underwriting the assault on your right to keep and bear arms.

Randi Weingarten’s Anti-Gun Crusade

The face of this agenda is Randi Weingarten, who, in the aftermath of the Minneapolis Catholic school shooting, wasted no time going on MSNBC to call for a nationwide ban on so-called “assault weapons.”

“There are more guns on the streets than people,” Weingarten claimed. “And the leading cause of death for kids is guns.”

Her solution?

Strip law-abiding Americans of the most popular rifle in the country, despite the FBI’s own crime statistics showing rifles of any kind are used in only a fraction of homicides each year — far fewer than knives, blunt objects, or fists.

For Weingarten, facts don’t matter. What matters is pushing an agenda that aligns perfectly with the millions her union is funneling to Bloomberg-aligned gun control outfits.

What History Shows

Gun bans don’t stop crime.

The Clinton “assault weapons ban” of 1994 failed to produce any measurable reduction in violence, a fact even acknowledged by studies commissioned by the Department of Justice.

Meanwhile, over 30 million AR-15 style rifles are privately owned in America today. Millions of law-abiding citizens use them daily for sport, hunting, and self-defense. Calling for their ban is not just unconstitutional — it’s unenforceable without mass confiscation.

Yet the teachers unions that parents trust to represent America’s educators are spending millions to bankroll the gun control lobby.

And with Randi Weingarten as their loudest mouthpiece, they are pushing harder than ever for bans on the very firearms millions of Americans rely on for protection.

Gun owners need to understand this fight isn’t happening in Washington alone. It’s happening in classrooms, in union halls, and in the millions of political dollars being weaponized against the Second Amendment.

And unless we stop them, Randi Weingarten and the unions she leads won’t stop until your AR-15 is banned.
