Washington, D.C. — The U.S. House of Representatives delivered a long-overdue victory to law-abiding gun owners this week by advancing language in its budget reconciliation bill that removes suppressors from the National Firearms Act (NFA). This monumental step comes after decades of bureaucratic overreach, punitive taxes, and unconstitutional red tape surrounding a device that does nothing more than protect the hearing of law-abiding Americans.
But this wasn’t a victory handed down from Washington out of goodwill.
It was the result of unrelenting pressure from multiple grassroots gun rights groups—chief among them Texas Gun Rights (TXGR), who joined the National Association for Gun Rights (NAGR) and other liberty-minded organizations in signing a powerful coalition letter demanding action.
Coalition Letter Pushes for FULL NFA Reform
On Wednesday, Capitol Hill received that coalition letter—delivered directly to offices including Speaker Mike Johnson’s.
The letter emphasized the absurdity of regulating basic firearm accessories like weapons of war and called on lawmakers to finally dismantle provisions of the NFA that serve no purpose other than criminalizing peaceful gun owners.
While the removal of SBRs was left out of the final package—a disappointment for sure—the inclusion of suppressor deregulation is nothing short of a historic win for the Second Amendment.
Why This Matters
For decades, gun owners have been forced to pay a $200 tax, register with the federal government, and wait months or even years for bureaucratic permission to own a suppressor—a safety device that’s heavily regulated in the U.S. but over-the-counter in much of Europe.
Suppressors reduce muzzle blast and protect hearing without “silencing” firearms, despite Hollywood’s misrepresentation.
Deregulating them is a practical, commonsense move that enhances safety and reinforces freedom.
And for Texas gun owners, this fight hits even closer to home.
Texas Law vs. ATF Tyranny
In 2021, the Texas Legislature passed a state law declaring that suppressors made in Texas and kept in Texas were exempt from NFA regulations.
It was a bold constitutional stand by Texas to assert its sovereignty and defend gun rights under the Tenth Amendment.
But the ATF chose to ignore state law, continuing to arrest and prosecute Texans who followed it.
Some of Texas Gun Rights’ own members are now fighting legal battles against the federal government—for nothing more than complying with Texas law.
Their legal expenses have already exceeded $500,000, and the emotional and financial toll continues to climb.
That’s why this vote in the U.S. House is more than symbolic. It’s a lifeline.
The Path Forward: Pressure the Senate
Now the spotlight shifts to the U.S. Senate, where gun owners must stand united and demand the suppressor language remain in the final version of the bill.
The Senate Democrats will do everything they can to strip this out behind closed doors—and we cannot let them.
If the suppressor provision survives reconciliation, it would nullify the very grounds on which the ATF is targeting Texans today, effectively ending ongoing legal battles and reinforcing the state’s right to protect its citizens from unconstitutional federal overreach.
No Compromise, No Retreat
This win proves what Texas Gun Rights has always said: pressure works.
Grassroots action matters.
And when gun owners unite under a banner of no compromise, even Washington takes notice.
But the battle isn’t over.
If you believe in liberty, if you believe the government has no business criminalizing accessories, if you believe Texans shouldn’t lose their homes and livelihoods for following state law—then now is the time to put your money where your mouth is.
Support Texas Gun Rights. Support the fight. Because the Second Amendment has no expiration date—and freedom isn’t given, it’s defended.
