The gloves are off in Texas.
Congressman Wesley Hunt jumped into the 2026 race for U.S. Senate — and he, too, is making sure gun rights are front and center.
For years, gun owners have watched in disgust as John Cornyn sold out our freedoms, cutting back-room deals with Joe Biden to ram through the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act — the biggest federal gun-control package in 30 years, according to the Biden administration.
Cornyn called it a “commonsense compromise.” We call it what it is: gun control, plain and simple.
Now, with Hunt’s entry and Attorney General Ken Paxton already in the race, Texas gun owners finally have a chance to confront Cornyn’s record head-on.
Hunt’s Entry Shakes Up the Field
Hunt says he’s running to bring “fresh conservative energy” to Washington — but if he means it, he’s got to prove it on the Second Amendment.
He’s already voted for H.J. Res. 44, overturning the Biden-ATF’s pistol-brace ban.
He also promised that his FIRST action in the Senate would be to reverse Cornyn’s gun control.
This is a strong start for Hunt but, being a new contestant in the race, he still must fill out his Texas Gun Rights Candidate Survey and go on the record with an uncompromising stance on gun rights.

Paxton: 100% Pro-Gun, No Compromise
Paxton’s record is crystal clear.
He’s fought the Biden-ATF in court, sued to stop illegal gun bans, and returned his Texas Gun Rights Candidate Survey 100 percent pro-gun — pledging to fight for the Second Amendment without compromise.
But even before Paxton became America’s most pro-gun attorney general, he fought for gun owners in the Texas Legislature by helping to pass Texas’ “Castle Doctrine” — also known as Texas’ “Stand your ground” law (SB 378, 2007), as well as the law allowing Texans to carry firearms in their vehicle (SB 321, 2011).
Not only that, before open carry was legal in Texas, Paxton clarified that an accidental display of a firearm by a license holder was not a punishable offense (HB 1815, 2007).
Of course, these reforms are common sense and only represent the bare minimum for anyone who claims to be pro-gun.
But Paxton has excelled where many politicians have failed — and his track record of being in the trenches for gun owners year after year is undeniable.
That’s why Texas Gun Rights PAC, the National Association for Gun Rights, and Gun Owners of America have all endorsed him.

Cornyn’s Anti-Gun Legacy
Senator Cornyn, meanwhile, has refused to even return a Texas Gun Rights survey. Why? Because he doesn’t want Texans to see just how many pro-gun policies he disagrees with.
He co-wrote the so-called Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, which:
- Funnels millions into state “red-flag” programs to seize guns without due process,
- Expands background checks and waiting periods for young adults, and
- Handed the Biden-ATF new perceived power to harass lawful gun owners.
That’s why Cornyn was booed off the stage at the Texas GOP Convention — by his own base.
“This could be the year of reckoning for John Cornyn,” said Chris McNutt, President of Texas Gun Rights.
“Cornyn betrayed gun owners when he teamed up with Joe Biden to pass the largest gun-control bill in decades. But Texans don’t forget. Ken Paxton has fought for gun owners in court and stood firm when it mattered most — and that’s the kind of leadership our state deserves.”
CALL John Cornyn & tell him to REVERSE course and start FIGHTING for the Second Amendment. Tell him to return his Texas Gun Rights candidate survey RIGHT AWAY: (202) 224-2934
