Cekada — a 20-year ATF insider and former NYPD officer — now assumes command of one of the most deeply entrenched anti-gun agencies in the federal government.
And Texas Gun Rights isn’t celebrating.
“Robert Cekada must prove he is not Merrick Garland with an ‘R’ by his name,” said Chris McNutt, President of Texas Gun Rights.
For gun owners, this is a moment of truth.
Because the ATF isn’t merely an agency: it is the enforcement arm of federal gun control — the same machine responsible for:
- Crushing small gun businesses with “zero tolerance” policies,
- Raiding gun owners over frivolous paperwork errors,
- Imposing criminal penalties through regulation instead of law,
- Abusing the National Firearms Act to target law-abiding people,
- And enforcing illegal Biden-era “rules” that Congress never voted on.
Texas Gun Rights: We Want Dismantling — Not “Reform”
Despite hopes from some quarters that Cekada may take a “friendlier” approach, Texas Gun Rights remains laser-focused:
“The time for reform is long gone. The ATF is beyond redemption. It must be abolished,” McNutt said.
“Gun owners will not allow a new director to rebrand the old tyranny.”
Predictably, the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) — the trade association for the firearms industry — issued a cautiously optimistic response.
They describe Cekada as: “competent,” “professional,” and someone the industry “can work with.”
Translation: they believe he won’t be as openly hostile as Biden’s nominees.
But Texas Gun Rights knows better than to trust bureaucrats simply because the gun-confiscation lobby doesn’t like them.
Why Gun Owners Are Skeptical
Robert Cekada spent decades inside the very agency that:
- Harassed FRT owners,
- Redefined pistol braces by fiat,
- Declared millions of Americans potential felons overnight,
- Killed Airport Direct Brian Malinowski over a rule that hadn’t yet been implemented,
- And still enforces the unconstitutional NFA as if Congress never zeroed out its tax.
Leadership does not fix culture.
A new director does not erase decades of abuse.
Only abolotion can accomplish that.
Gun Owners: This Is Your Warning Shot
A Trump appointment does not automatically make the ATF your friend.
Cekada now sits atop an agency that has trampled gun owners under both parties.
And gun owners are watching.
While D.C. insiders applaud appointments and bureaucrats shuffle offices, Texas Gun Rights is doing the one thing nobody else will: holding EVERY administration accountable — regardless of party.
If you want Texas Gun Rights to keep exposing anti-gun bureaucrats, fighting to abolish the ATF, and defending your Second Amendment rights with zero compromise, chip-in below.
