Speaker Dennis Bonnen has a change of heart?
January 8, 2019
Buckle your seat belt!
The 2019 Session of the Texas Legislature kicks off today.
But with a new Speaker at the helm of the Texas House, we are treading in uncharted waters.
That’s why Texas Gun Rights is leading the charge to force a recorded vote on Constitutional Carry in the Texas House.
And pro-gun State Representative Jonathan Stickland already filed HB 357, the 2019 Constitutional Carry bill!
So it’s imperative that you sign your Constitutional Carry Petition RIGHT AWAY.
Your signed petition to your elected officials will send a loud-and-clear message to the Austin political establishment to support Constitutional Carry, or face the political consequences.
And there is hope!
When the Legislature gavels into session later today, the anti-gun “Republican” Speaker, Joe Straus, will no longer have his grip over the Texas House.
It feels so good to be able to type those words to you…
Not surprisingly, Straus’s hand-picked successor, State Representative Dennis Bonnen, appears to be grabbing the reins of power in his stead.
But according to Capitol insiders, Bonnen may not be following the anti-gun footsteps of his predecessor.
Rumors swirling around the Capitol suggest that Bonnen is flirting with the idea of passing Constitutional Carry in 2019.
Even though it was Bonnen — under Straus’s direction — who killed Constitutional Carry in 2015, insiders claim he doesn’t want to feel the heat of gun owners breathing down his neck.
If you recall, pro-gun Texans, mobilized by Texas Gun Rights’ NO COMPROMISE tactics, flooded the Capitol with phone calls, e-mails, and petitions in an effort to pass Constitutional Carry in 2015.
In 2017, Texas Gun Rights dialed up the pressure by forcing the ruling class to allow the first ever hearing for Constitutional Carry in the Texas House.
In 2019, it appears that presumptive Speaker Dennis Bonnen is having a change of heart.
And he is reportedly making promises to support Constitutional Carry as a bargaining chip to gain support for the Speakership.
Not only that, there is more grassroots support from pro-gun Texans for Constitutional Carry than ever before.
The momentum is clearly on our side.
That’s why pro-gun hero Jonathan Stickland is doubling down on his efforts to get a recorded vote on Constitutional Carry on the floor of the House of Representatives.
But one man alone can’t put the entire Texas House on the record.
And after an underwhelming election night for Republicans in Texas’ largest urban counties, establishment consultants are whispering in the ears of Republican politicians to abandon any pro-gun reforms…to appease the anti-gun crowd.
So even though Republicans still hold strong majorities in BOTH chambers of the Legislature, they must be reminded that they represent their pro-gun constituents — and NOT the anti-gun media.
But getting this vote will be no small task.
And it simply won’t be possible without your support and activism.
That’s why I hope you’ll join me by mounting a pressure campaign on presumptive Speaker Bonnen — and the ruling class — to allow a vote for Constitutional Carry on the Texas House floor!
Because when push comes to shove, politicians like Bonnen will follow the orders of those who push the hardest…for the sake of political expediency.
And it is my goal to deliver 100,000 of your Constitutional Carry petitions to the Capitol this year!
Your support is vital to our success.
Thanks for all that you’re able to do!
