Kash Patel Ends ATF’s “Zero Tolerance” Policy Crackdown

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In a dramatic reversal of one of the Biden Administration’s most draconian anti-gun policies, Acting ATF Director Kash Patel has officially repealed the so-called “Zero Tolerance” policy that weaponized the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) against gun dealers across the country.

This policy—put in place by the Biden White House—led to a 500% spike in Federal Firearms License (FFL) revocations, often over the most trivial of clerical errors. Gun dealers who had faithfully served their communities for decades suddenly found themselves out of business for mistyping a date or transposing a serial number.

Patel, appointed under the Trump administration’s sweeping pro-Second Amendment reforms, rightly recognized the policy for what it was: a backdoor gun control scheme aimed at strangling the supply of firearms by eliminating lawful dealers.

“Make no mistake, this repeal is a massive course correction at the ATF,” said Chris McNutt, President of Texas Gun Rights. “But while Kash Patel deserves credit for cleaning house, we cannot stop here. The ATF is still a ticking time bomb for gun rights.”

And he’s right.

Gun rights advocates are cheering the policy repeal—but warning that without deeper legislative action, it’s only a matter of time before the pendulum swings back. The same agency that was used to destroy small gun shops under Biden could once again be used as a bludgeon against gun owners if political winds shift.

That’s why Texas Gun Rights and grassroots organizations across the nation are calling on Congress to act now—while they still hold the majority.

“We must seize this moment to permanently dismantle the ATF and repeal the unconstitutional National Firearms Act,” McNutt said. “Historically, the party in power loses ground in the midterms. If Republicans lose Congress in 2026, this opportunity could vanish.”

Gun owners are rallying around key legislation already introduced in Washington:

  • H.R. 221, to Abolish the ATF, and
  • H.R. 335, to Repeal the NFA, the law that empowers bureaucrats to decide what kind of weapons free Americans are “allowed” to own.

The repeal of the Zero Tolerance policy is a rare win in the long, bruising battle for gun rights. But it’s not the end—it’s just the start.

Because for every unconstitutional raid, every denied background check, every law-abiding citizen criminalized by red tape, there must be accountability.

And that accountability begins with abolishing the agency that carried out the orders.

“Gun owners didn’t vote for half-measures,” McNutt concluded. “They voted to tear down the corrupt anti-gun infrastructure once and for all. Let’s finish the job before time runs out.”
