On January 22nd, Congressman Michael Cloud (TX-27) reintroduced the No REGISTRY Rights Act, a pivotal piece of legislation aimed at protecting the rights of all Americans by blocking the federal government from creating a gun registry. This legislation directly confronts the ATF’s overreach and is critical for the preservation of our Second Amendment rights.
For years, Congressman Cloud has been at the forefront of the fight against federal gun control and bureaucratic tyranny, consistently championing the cause of Texans and gun owners across the nation. His latest initiative takes a stand against one of the most insidious forms of government overreach—the creation of a federal firearms registry—which could ultimately lead to door-to-door gun confiscation.
Texas Gun Rights has long warned about the dangers of such a registry, and Cloud’s reintroduction of the No REGISTRY Rights Act couldn’t come at a more crucial time. For years, the ATF has been quietly amassing an enormous database of firearm transaction records. As of now, the agency holds over 920 million records—thanks to a deeply troubling database known as the Out-of-Business Records Imaging System (OBRIS). These records are gathered whenever Federal Firearm Licensees (FFLs) close their businesses, and the ATF retains them indefinitely. Under the Biden Administration, a new rule mandates that these records be kept permanently, in clear violation of previous policy that allowed for their destruction after 20 years.
The expansion of this database is no coincidence. Many experts, including Texas Gun Rights, have raised alarm over the ATF’s potential to use these records to create a door-to-door confiscation list. This move has been called out as not only an unconstitutional violation of the Second Amendment, but a direct assault on the privacy and liberties of every American.
The No REGISTRY Rights Act offers a common-sense solution to this growing crisis by demanding the following critical actions:
- Immediate deletion of all firearm transaction records stored by the ATF, effectively dismantling the dangerous OBRIS database.
- Allowing FFLs to destroy transaction records when they go out of business, halting the further accumulation of gun owner data by the government.
- Prohibiting any federal agency from creating or maintaining a firearms registry now and in the future.
In a powerful statement, Congressman Cloud explained, “The Second Amendment is a cornerstone of individual liberty, and no administration—Republican or Democrat—should have the ability to compile a list of law-abiding gun owners. The Biden Administration’s backdoor attempts to create a federal firearms registry are a clear threat to Americans’ privacy and constitutional freedoms. The No REGISTRY Rights Act will dismantle the ATF’s existing database and ensure such a registry can never be implemented.”
Texas Gun Rights fully supports this legislation and applauds Congressman Cloud for his relentless work to protect our rights. His dedication to holding the ATF accountable and his commitment to constitutional freedoms resonate deeply with our mission to defend Texans’ Second Amendment rights.
It’s worth noting that Cloud’s efforts have already borne fruit. His leadership was instrumental in exposing the ATF’s illegal activities and their ongoing expansion of the database. He is unwavering in his resolve to block these unconstitutional actions and to make sure that the federal government never gains the ability to create a gun registry.
The No REGISTRY Rights Act is cosponsored by numerous pro-gun champions in Congress, including Representatives Chip Roy (TX-21), Randy Weber (TX-14), and Andy Biggs (AZ-05). Together, these lawmakers are sending a clear message to the Biden Administration and unelected bureaucrats: The American people will not stand for the erosion of their freedoms.
Texas Gun Rights couldn’t agree more. The Second Amendment is crystal clear: “SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED.” Congressman Cloud’s bill is a critical step in ensuring that this fundamental right is protected and that Texans can continue to exercise their constitutional rights without fear of government surveillance or confiscation.
With an overwhelming Republican majority in Congress, now is the time for bold action. Texans—and all Americans—deserve leaders who stand firm against the forces of gun control, and we must hold those leaders accountable to fight for the rights of the people.
Texas Gun Rights remains committed to NO COMPROMISE in the defense of your rights. Support the fight for liberty by joining us today, and together we’ll make sure that the Second Amendment is fully protected for generations to come.
