Texas Congressmen Ronny Jackson and Chip Roy are wasting no time capitalizing on the pro-freedom mandate delivered by American voters in November. With Donald Trump securing the presidency and Republicans holding both chambers of Congress, conservatives have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to roll back federal gun control and restore the Second Amendment as the Founding Fathers intended.
Congressman Ronny Jackson (R-TX-13) recently reintroduced the No User Fees for Gun Owners Act, a measure designed to prevent state and local governments from imposing insurance mandates, taxes, and other financial barriers on gun owners. Backed by Texas Gun Rights, this bill ensures that Americans are not burdened with unconstitutional fees as a condition of exercising their Second Amendment rights.
Meanwhile, Congressman Chip Roy (R-TX-21) has reintroduced the Defending Veterans’ Second Amendment Rights Act, which would stop the Department of Veterans Affairs from sending certain veterans’ information to the Department of Justice to be used in the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS). Under current law, many veterans are flagged as “prohibited persons” simply for needing help managing their finances, stripping them of their gun rights without due process. Roy’s bill is a critical step toward ending this bureaucratic attack on those who have fought for our country.
Beyond Texas, other Republican lawmakers are also seizing the opportunity to push aggressive pro-gun legislation. Congressman Thomas Massie (R-KY) has introduced the National Constitutional Carry Act (H.R. 645), which would recognize the right of every law-abiding American to carry a firearm nationwide without a government-issued permit. This measure reflects the reality that 29 states already have Constitutional Carry laws on the books, making it the clear standard for firearm freedom in America.
Congressmen Eric Burlison (R-MO) and Lauren Boebert (R-CO) have filed legislation to Abolish the ATF (H. R. 221), a necessary move after years of the agency’s unconstitutional overreach. From the botched Waco raid to the “Fast and Furious” scandal, the ATF has a long history of undermining American gun owners while empowering criminals. By dismantling this rogue agency, Congress can take a significant step toward restoring the proper role of government.
Burlison has also filed the Repeal the NFA Act (H.R.335), which seeks to eliminate the National Firearms Act of 1934—a law that imposed unconstitutional taxes and registration requirements on suppressors, short-barrel rifles, and machine guns. This outdated, anti-gun legislation has allowed unelected bureaucrats to infringe on gun owners’ rights for nearly a century. With Republicans in control, there is no excuse not to take action and remove this unconstitutional restriction once and for all.
These bills are backed by Texas Gun Rights and their national affiliate, the National Association for Gun Rights, and represent a moment of clarity for the Republican Party:will they act decisively to secure gun rights for generations to come, or will they squander this opportunity by playing defense? The American people did not elect them to maintain the status quo. It is time for Congress to act—before the window of opportunity closes.
